Redevelopment of the centre of Malmsheim

Client: Renningen City Council
Period of execution: 2008/2009

Within the scope of the redevelopment programme of Renningen City Council for the Malmsheim District, work is being commenced on the redesign and renewal of the streets and lanes. The site is located in the core zone of Malmsheim, and essentially includes Perouser Straße, Bachstraße and the Waldhorn area. Besides the outdoor facilities, in collaboration with architects the Waldhorn area building is being erected, and, in order to revive the centre of the district, it is planned for it to house a small supermarket and a café.

The surface design, with artificial plaster and granite channels, takes the existing "old town" structure as a guideline, and, through simple light fixtures and granite cobbles, bridges the gap to modern times. The intentional joint-like design, at right angles to the road axis, provides an intuitive deceleration of the speed of the traffic, as well as a feel for space. This is highlighted by the choice of paving in sizes of up to 30x30cm in the traffic circulation areas, taking into account the applicable directives in regard to the roadbed, paving thickness and paving size. In order to reduce the amount of paved surface, a hydraulically bound road paving is being incorporated as an intersection to the outdoor facilities in the Bachstraße, which conveys a sense of generosity in terms of the perception of space. In the course of this measure, the street lighting is being renovated in all the streets that are to be improved, and, if necessary, the existing canal or aqueduct will be replaced. Through the bundling of measures, the costs have been reduced.

Redevelopment of the eastern centre of Renningen

Client: Renningen City Council
Period of execution: 2006/2007

Within the scope of Renningen City Council's redevelopment programme, the renewal of the streets and lanes in the eastern town centre is being continued. The building site is situated in the northern town centre of Renningen, and primarily comprises Lange Straße, Unterwörthstraße and Magstadter Straße.

The surface design, including artificial and granite plaster, takes the existing "old town" structure as a guideline and creates a feeling of uniformity. In order to give the streets an enchanting touch, there are plans to plant trees on both sides of the streets. Depending upon the local situation, longitudinal parking spaces are being created along the streets. This will be done using granite sett paving. The streets are designed in such a way that high speeds cannot be achieved. In the course of this measure, the street lighting is being renovated in all the streets that are to be improved, and, if necessary, the existing canal or aqueduct will be replaced.

As a measure anticipating the "Pfarrtor III" building zone which is being planned, a stormwater channel is simultaneously being laid in the course of the redevelopment measures.
